Good News Update: Citgo Restores Heating Oil Program
Published January 08, 2009 @ 09:18AM PT
Citgo has reversed its decision to suspend its free heating oil program for low-income households in the U.S., citing the suspension as a "PR goof." It's aim this winter is to provide up to 100 gallons of free oil per home for up to 200,000 low-income households and Native American tribes in 23 states.
This article in The Boston Globe also includes information on state and other non-profit heating assistance programs in Massachusetts and presumably elsewhere.
Sounds like this was a lot of political chest-bumping among executive dudes - Joe Kennedy publicly cornering Hugo Chavez to resume his stance of flouting his "humanitarian aid" to America's poor in the face of that "devil," George W. Bush, low-income hater.
Whatever it takes, I say. This is great news!!

I live in Northern Minnesota where it is above 0 degrees today. In this state the electric company can not turn off your electricity during the winter as long as you contact them and make an attempt to pay your bill. The state also has a heating assistance program where they will buy you some fuel oil, electricity, or even wood if you use that to heat with. The funds in this program are having to be spread between more people this year.

Scot - I love your comments because you have a lot of experiences that you share.
In MA we have a similar program, with similar increased need and similar reduced availability.
I'm hoping when you say "above 0 degrees" you mean it's 68 and balmy, but somehow I doubt it!! :)
