Food Stamp Funding Up 19%
Published October 11, 2009 @ 05:43PM PT

President Obama is expected to sign into law shortly the FY2010 agriculture spending bill that includes an unprecedented $58.2B for food stamps. Combined with the funding for food stamps in the stimulus, this reflects an increase of 19% over existing funding levels. More than 1 in 10 Americans are benefiting from food stamps, even as millions more wait for their applications to move through overcrowded public systems. The average monthly support for a family of 4 is $226.
What I just learned is that the supplemental nutrition program WIC for women, infants and children supports almost half of all children born in the US. That is a lot of hungry, little bellies!
President Obama is waiting for 10 of 12 more spending bills to come across his desk. Let's hope they all bring more generous benefits like this.

Of course, the demand for assistance has increased causing the funding assumptions to rise as well. A classic tell tell sign of efforts to being made to negate the current economic meltdown witnessed across this nation. A way of identifying the problem as time is bought to produce an answer economically.

Yep. Funny, the Uneployment rate is also nearly 10%. I applied for Food Stamps in July, my Phone interview for Eligibility is Oct. 22. They are really behind in TX right now.

Tell them if they do not get food stamps to you, you will call Texas Legal Aid. Get a hold of them Monday ,so you know how many days they have to get food stamps to you. Tell them you want Emergency SNAP, in a snap. Otherwise you could wait a month more.
If it is an emergency in Maine they have 72 hours to get the stamps to you. Texas may be behind in food stamps but they are the fastest state to execute inmates. Perhaps the state no longer want to feed immates who cannot afford good lawyers.
I am tired of the increment of improvement. The Gov. still counts on bickering amongst the poorest of us and the uncounted poor, to keep the masses entertained, and COMPLACENT.
We need to combine our voices and call for 100% of the need for 100% of the people.
