Poverty in America

1 in 10 Americans using food stamps

Published April 04, 2009 @ 08:16AM PT

Read it and weep.

That's a record.  Also:

"The figures show an increase of over 4.3 million claimants in just ten months, and mark the third time in five months that enrolment has set a new record."

Average monthly benefit is $112.

Obama has approved a temporary 13 per cent increase in food stamps. That could help. With my limited income since my husband's incarceration for a marijuana arrest, it's either pay for food or electricity. This reflects another layer of wasted tax payer money going to fund the drug war.

Aren't 1 in 10 Americans in prison as well? It just shows priorities & problems.
